#BlackLivesMatter, #ICantBreathe, #HandsUpDontShoot ... hashtags and headlines that permeate the Internet.
Coincidentally, I've been reading Barbara Hambly's compelling historical murder mystery series about a free man of color set in 1830s New Orleans.
Today on my blog I look at how the Benjamin January series shows racism in America then and how it doesn't look terribly different now.

When the release date for the 50 Shades of Grey movie was announced, Laura Antoniou conceived of the brilliant idea of bringing authors of BDSM themed literature together to create a place for readers to go for more.
And so Beyond 50! was born to point readers whose curiosity was piqued and who would like to find more BDSM fiction to read -- sensual romances, gritty thrillers, spell-binding fantasy, darkly passionate suspense and horror, dramatic historical adventures, edgy erotica, honest memoirs. From short stories to long novels, from subtle and light to explicit and nasty, from fiction to helpful and sexy nonfiction to help bring your more risqué thoughts to life!
As part of this project, I recorded a short excerpt from Spyder's Trouble for KinkyCast. You can hear me read starting at 28 minutes.

Last November, I started National Novel Writing Month without an outline for the first time in ages. I only had partial backstories for four characters and an inciting incident.
The words flowed and I had a fabulous time getting to know those characters. When I finished the book, it was so different than anything I had written before, I had no clue what to do with it. So I sent a note to Cecilia Tan founder and publisher of Circlet Press.
"Would you believe I wrote a BDSM space opera novella? No idea where this came from. I don't write space opera and my specfic and erotica have never crossed paths before."
Two months later, Circlet Press had acquired the rights to Spyder's Trouble and I began working with Circlet editor Gabrielle Harbowy.
Cecilia even hired my boy, Patrick, to create the fabulous cover art above.
Spyder's Trouble: Ignoring threats from the owner of the cargo in his spaceship's hold and the anger of his influential and overdue passenger, Spyder risks Trouble, his life, and his crew to rescue the Dominatrix Lady Cassandra.
Available in ebook next month and in print in February or March of 2015.

Jesse first appeared in Searching as the young man who would do almost anything to serve the lovely Lady Theresa.
But, when Lady Theresa and Sir Richard go back to Portland from the B&B where they met Jesse, he's forced to confront what he's done and what he's become.
Jesse found the perfect Mistress in the Lady Theresa, the woman he trained all his life to serve. Unfortunately, her husband, Sir Richard, also finds Jesse attractive.

Beginning this year, I made my short story collections available in print. And recently, after much searching, Patrick found a payment processor that won't rip off my readers and that will (without charging outrageous fees) accept payment for erotic fiction.
To celebrate these two milestones and to simplify your holiday gift shopping, for a limited time I'm offering massive markdowns on all the books I have in print, including first editions.
Now through midnight PST Cyber Monday (December 1, 2014), get up to 45 percent off on my short story collections, novels (including those by Korin Dushayl), and poetry book. I'll sign them and ship them to you for Solstice/Yule/Christmas/Kwanza/Festivus/mid-Chanukah giving.
Choose from 13 short story collections, five novels, and one book of poetry with varying levels of heat, romance, and kink at up to 45 percent off. Plus, for the collector, I'm offering reduced prices on First Editions of Broken, Shattered, Dommemoir, and Pain of Love (quantities limited).
Each short story collection has two editions. The special collector's editions include the color covers for each individual short story. (If you need help figuring out which short story collections might be most appreciated, you can search for stories by category. Just make sure the "Include Collections" box is checked.) You can even get a copy of Leather Home before its release in January.
Check out all the Book Bargains while they last.

Richard first showed up in my stories when I wrote Searching, a twist on the story of two dominants searching for a slave they can share.
When I started putting together stories for Who Tops Who, Theresa insisted on explaining how she, a FemDom who had never been in a vanilla relationship, ended up married to a dominant male.
Of course, given the nature of their relationship, that required Richard to tell his story. (And, since it's only fair, I decided to give Jesse a chance to share his journey -- his tale will be available next month.)
In "Richard," available today, Theresa fascinated him from the first time he saw her. But how does he entice her into considering more than a casual relationship with another dominant?

"The race for the United States Senate is going to be close -- in fact it's going to be so close that a handful of voters may decide who controls the Senate in Washington," admits one Republican supporter. "People of like-minds need to stick together so as to avoid the rise of a government that is in complete conflict with their values." He wrote those words to scare GOP voters into forking over money and getting to the polls for the midterm election.
But, unless your values are Tea Party ignorance and obstructionism, you must Vote Blue. If you don't vote, or you vote for Republicans or third party candidates, you are handing the United States government over to right wing nut jobs who can't spell, but are determined to take away your health care, your reproductive rights, your ability to earn more than slave wages, your weekends, your vacations, your home, and your retirement funds.
I discuss what's at stake in detail on my blog. Please read, share, and comment. We need to get the word out to overcome voter apathy, disenfranchisement, and Koch brother lies.

Sometimes sexual attraction ignores D/s orientation. I've known couples who were both submissive, and dominants who wore the collar of the person they fell in love with. My own boy, Patrick, has never identified as a submissive. He was more of a dominant, and a bit of a sadist, when I met him. But he demonstrates his love to me by submitting and serving and he wears my collar.
In four tantalizing tales, Who Tops Who explores how dynamic dominants resolve their conflicting desires when they find each other irresistible.
You can now purchase Who Tops Who in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $21.95 includes the short story covers with the gorgeous models who helped inspire some of the stories. If you prefer ebooks, you can find the collection at all your favorite retailers.
Who Tops Who includes:
Chocolate Cake: Her submissive toys wait for her at home, but Louise finds an offer by an attractive Dom as tempting as Chocolate Cake. (First published in One Night Only: Explicit Erotica, edited by Violet Blue.)
FemDom Fairy Tale: A FemDom's offhand remark about a photograph at an erotic art show draws a handsome man's attention. But, when two dominants find each other attractive, which one chooses to kneel? (First published in Desire Presents.)
Switch: Liza finds it difficult to maintain control around Emanuel, but can't resist his offer to share his slave with her. Then she learns his secret.
Theresa: Richard admits to boorish behavior, but Theresa has no use for his apology. Then, he persuades her to accept a ride home from him and proves his integrity.

Sometimes characters hide things from their creator, their secrets so deep and dark that I must write about them before I can learn the hidden truth. "Switch" started out as a simple story about two dominants and how they resolved their attraction to each other, the last story for Who Tops Who? available next month.
I only discovered Emanuel's secret a few seconds before Liza did, and I believe I was more shocked than she.
In "Switch," Liza finds it difficult to maintain control around Emanuel, but can't resist his offer to share his slave with her.

Some characters insist on having their entire story told from beginning to end all at once. Others only reveal what happens next after waiting a while. And, still others get an urge to share what came before, months or years after I've told their story.
"Theresa," who first appeared in "Searching," falls into that latter category.
Richard promises to join the conversation next, but for now, you can learn how the two dominants met and got acquainted in "Theresa."
Richard admits to boorish behavior, but Theresa has no use for his apology. Then, he persuades her to accept a ride home from him and proves his integrity.

Are you a man or a woman? Most adults consider that a silly question. But for many, that can be the most difficult question they ever have to answer. On my blog today, I discuss another question, one frequently asked by trans men and women: "Do I pass?" How you answer that question may be more important than you realize.

And, as an article I tweeted yesterday demonstrated (again), these prudes are part of the anti-sex movement determined to remove all pleasurable sex from the world, whether person-to-person, in literature, or on film.
Unfortunately, because people who enjoy sex apparently don't vote, the prudes succeeded in getting the United Kingdom to adopt a ridiculous set of "filters" to prevent anyone from accessing "porn" online. Of course, the reality is some porn still gets through, but sites that offer support to teens, abuse victims, breast cancer patients, etc., as well as anything that might be feminist or support rights for sexual minorities, are blocked.
I discovered last week, that my site has been blocked by three major UK ISPs simply because of its URL. So, I've set up a mirror site. Fans who live in countries, such as the UK, that block eroticawriter.net can now visit frederickbooks.com and get the exact same content.
So you if you know someone who lives in a repressive country such as the UK (or, for that matter, the US) who has difficulty accessing my site, please point them to frederickbooks.com.

When I first joined the indie revolution by producing books of my previously published short stories, I never imagined how quickly my body of work would outgrow this website. But I keep writing.
Currently, I offer 48 short stories and 11 themed collections for sale. How does anyone who visits this website determine what they want to read (unless they're a devoted fan, consuming everything I write)?
Since I write a wide variety of stories about every sexual and D/s orientation with a plethora of fetishes -- very few people will enjoy absolutely everything.
Patrick worked for months to create the solution. Now you can search the website for stories including any one (or combination) of 26 categories. You can check off as many (or as few) of the categories as you want, then select for either stories with any of the categories or stories that only have all of them. (And you can choose whether or not to include the collections with short stories in the search.) So if you want lesbian sex with D/s and S&M or if you just want lesbian sex with romance, you can find the stories most likely to match your interests.
For each story, the search results show you the cover, a short blurb, and what fetishes are included. If the story is available in a collection(s) (and most are) you can see which one(s) to help you determine if you just want to purchase that single short story, or a collection including it and others with the same theme. And, of course, each story/collection has links to where it's available for sale and a button if you want to add it to your Goodreads shelf.
You can also search by title or view a list of all collections or all short stories.
Do you see a category we've missed or one you'd like me to write about? Let us know on the new contact page.

How do you know When Two's Not Enough? Sometimes circumstances make it impossible to stop with just one partner. Besides, adding a little variety to the mix can enhance long-term relationships or just fill in the gaps between them.
If you enjoy reading about ménage, now you can savor When Two's Not Enough's seven sexy stories in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $24.95 includes the short story covers with the gorgeous models, some of whom inspired the characters. Honeymoon: Although she expected to honeymoon aboard a cruise ship, Allison finds herself sailing on a private yacht staffed by an incredibly beautiful couple. Believing her new husband wants to hide his older, less attractive wife, makes it difficult to enjoy the hedonistic delights offered in paradise.
Nikki's Birthday: Even someone happy in a monogamous relationship might find the gift of a hot, new toy for an evening of decadence incredibly exciting. (Inspired by a real birthday present given to a lovely little bi-sexual, genderqueer slave.)
Market Boy: When a beautiful Domme offers Jack the opportunity to serve at a party for her friends, he responds too quickly and too eagerly, getting more than he bargained for.
The Cougar and the College Boys: Alone in the woods, hours from Portland, Tess discovers four college friends staying in a nearby cabin. The boys invite her to share their campfire, their dinner, and ...

But, I get really tired of the hypocrites who fight against sex education and contraception and then call themselves "pro life" because they try to stop women from having abortions.
Today on my blog I redefine the concept of "pro life," and call the hypocrites what they are.

Last year, I wrote several stories with a specific editor and a specific publication in mind. But about halfway through each, I recognized the stories had veered off in a direction that wouldn't fit in her collection.
I saw a theme emerging and I combined them with other stories sharing the same concept into the collection
Second Chances, six sexy stories about getting a second shot at the gold ring.
Now you can purchase Second Chances in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $24.95 includes all of the short story covers with the gorgeous models, some of whom inspired the stories and/or characters. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $4.99 at various retailers.
Second Chances includes:
Back to School: An admin error forces Jordan and Dennis to share a dorm room. Older than their classmates, they decide to stick together. But Jordan's past threatens to keep them apart.
Gordon: When the cover model of her latest book walks into the coffee shop where she writes, Lenore embarrassingly calls him by her character's name. His reaction confounds her.
Spa Date: Dismayed that she introduced Sam to the woman who betrayed her, Julie tries to fix her up again.
Salt for His Wounds: When Eleanor's ex-husband shows up begging for a second chance, she asks her young, gorgeous next door neighbor for a favor. Mick takes advantage of the opportunity.
Proposal -- Tangled Webs: The evening appears perfectly arranged for him to pop the question. But, Christopher's proposition takes Geraldine on an unanticipated sexual adventure.
Starting Over: When her pet walked out on her, she stayed away from parties because it hurt to watch other women playing with their toys. But, a friend coerces her into attending a unique event. (Condensed version originally published as "FemDom Party.")

My collections develop from patterns. When I notice several short stories that share a theme (or a fetish), I pull them together so folks who enjoy that type of story can get several for a lower price than if they bought all the stories individually.
Ladies in Love evolved when I realized I had four Lesbian love stories available in various collections. So, I wrote two more, only available individually or in this collection, and went looking for cover art.
In Ladies in Love you will find a variety of combinations: butch FemDoms who likes femme bottoms, a femme FemDom who likes butch bottoms, femmes who like femmes, butches who like butches, and some combinations involving more than two.
Now available in ebook at All Romance, Smashwords, Amazon, and other retailers, Ladies in Love includes:
Empty Seat: Laura offers Alex a nightcap as thanks for help with a presentation to a prospective client. But they never order drinks, because the southbound train introduced a masochist to the first sadist willing to test her boundaries.
'Aunt' Grace: Jen needed a place to stay in Portland and turned to her father's stepsister. But, she found so much more than she ever dreamed possible with her "Aunt" Grace. Second Place, National Leather Association -- International John Preston Short Story Award.

Every story has twists and turns. Characters make choices that change the outcome, sometimes drastically. At other times the characters just take another path to the same destination.
In Fork in the Road I explore those twists and turns in three stories -- each of which is told two different ways -- showing how that Fork changes people's lives, and relationships.
Now you can purchase Fork in the Road in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $21.95 includes all the short story covers. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $3.99 at various retailers.
Fork in the Road includes:
Said the Unicorn: Tessa dedicates herself to her Master's service, so his determination to add another woman to their family devastates her. Two short stories show how Tessa's reaction changes her relationship with her Master.
Proposals: The evening appears perfectly arranged for him to pop the question. But, Christopher's proposition takes Geraldine on an unanticipated sexual adventure. Two short stories show how Geraldine's reaction alters when Christopher's secret changes.
Winners & Losers: When he finally walks away from the blackjack table, Jeffrey finds someone worth gambling on. In two short stories, whether Jeffrey wins or loses determines his approach to Lisa, and her reaction.

I don't drink coffee, but I love tea. My choice of coffee shop is based on its tea selection. Normally, if I'm in a coffee (or tea) shop it's to sit and meet with someone and enjoy the establishment's refreshments. I get frustrated when my ability to do so is hampered (or even prevented) by folks who have parked themselves and their computer for hours at a time. Find my rant on this practice on my blog today.April 24, 2014
When I started looking over the dozens of short stories of mine that magazines, anthologies, etc. had published,
Cougar Conquests was the first theme that jumped out. I admit to a bit of experience with that dynamic, which made it easy to write. The collection offers five sexy stories about beautiful older women on the prowl and the sweet young cubs captured by their allure.
Now you can purchase Cougar Conquests in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $21.95 includes all of the short story covers with the gorgeous models. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $4.99 at various retailers.
Cougar Conquests includes:
Benjamin: A chance meeting at a munch in a tiny town leads Benjamin to an opportunity for training. But, Lady Gina tries to end the relationship rather than emotionally torture herself.
Paddles: A biker bar with no bikers? The decor, name, and patrons of a bar in a small Eastern Oregon town puzzle William who just stopped in for a beer. Then the owner introduces him to the secrets of this very special tavern.
Starting Over: When her pet walked out on her, she stayed away from parties because it hurt to watch other women playing with their toys. But, a friend coerces her into attending a unique event. (Condensed version originally published as "FemDom Party.")
Festival of Eros: The handsome young man followed her around all evening, behaving like the perfect submissive ... until she learned his identity.
The Cougar and the College Boys: Alone in the woods, hours from Portland, Tess discovers four college friends staying in a nearby cabin. The boys invite her to share their campfire, their dinner, and ...

On two different occasions, I have taken someone who was under my protection to a dental school for care. If you have the time, it provides a less expensive dentistry option for someone who doesn't have insurance. Many of the patients are elderly because they are the ones who have the time, do not have the resources to otherwise obtain dental care, and provide good teaching cases -- a factor in being chosen as a patient.
If you worked all day with future dentists and old folks, an attractive woman who was neither student or patient, and therefore not off limits, might look very appealing. Of course if her mother, the patient, tries to fix her up with your student, it might make things a bit awkward.
In "Dental School" how can Cindy flirt with the beautiful blonde dental instructor while her mother propositions the student examining her teeth on Cindy's behalf?
"Scooting closer, Cindy pressed her thigh tight against the other woman's. Jean turned, lifted Cindy's chin with two fingers, and leaned over. Cindy tilted her head back in invitation and Jean pressed her lips against Cindy's, her hand sliding back behind Cindy's neck."

In 2004, several accomplishments pushed me from wannabe toward professional writer. I sold my first two short stories, I received three honorable mentions in short story contests, and
"Salt for His Wounds," the first story in
Eleanor & Mick won first place (and $100) in a contest for a now-defunct website.
A year later, Midnight Showcase's Sweet Revenge anthology included the story, but Eleanor stuck around and insisted I reveal more details about her journey of sexual exploration and insight.
Now you can purchase Eleanor & Mick in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $21.95 includes all of the short story covers, with the gorgeous models who helped inspire some of the stories. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $3.99 at various retailers.
The collection includes:
Salt for His Wounds: Salt for His Wounds: When Eleanor's ex-husband shows up begging for a second chance, she asks her young, gorgeous next door neighbor for a favor. Mick takes advantage of the opportunity.
The Mercantile: Eleanor attributes Mick's detachment to the difference in their ages, but Mick confesses a need for kink. Afraid of losing him, Eleanor reluctantly consents to bondage and pain.
The Things We Do for Love: When her gorgeous girlfriend visits Eleanor on the coast, Mick's obvious attraction troubles her. But, Liz only has eyes for Eleanor.
Paid in Full: Mick's army buddy finds Eleanor hot and makes a deal with Mick. But, if Mick really loved Eleanor would he let another man have sex with her?
Renovations: After Mick spends a month renovating their garage, Eleanor discovers he built in a few surprises.

Lessons Learned,
one of only two of my collections with all original stories never published by any magazine or anthology, includes four sizzling hot FemDom love stories about women who come to terms with their dominant sides and discover that makes them more attractive to the men they love.
The many men I've met who are in love with women they had hoped they could convince to become FemDoms, but who cling to vanilla relationship constructs, inspired the stories. Perhaps those men could learn something from these stories (or share them with those women in hopes of giving them ideas).
Now you can purchase Lessons Learned in paperback for $10.95 or the Special Collector's Edition for $21.95. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $4.99 at various retailers.
The collection includes:
Tea Party: What if the first time your best friend drags you to a FemDom "Tea Party" you see your former boyfriend serving canapes naked?
Blind Date: How do you respond when you find your ex-husband hanging out at the restaurant where you planned to meet your "Blind Date"?
To Serve: If you love a vanilla woman and you only want "To Serve," how do you introduce her to the lifestyle without scaring her away?
Change in View: What if a "Change in View" alters the attitude of the man you mentored so he could find his perfect Mistress?

Now that I've completed the bulk of the work required to publish my collections in paper, I am delighted to be writing new stories. Today, I release the first new short story I've published since December. I frequently ride the rails between Oregon and Seattle. When I traveled alone, I always tried to get a single seat so I didn't have to worry about someone peeking over my shoulder and then taking offense at what I wrote. Or worse, someone who wanted to talk about the story they wrote in second grade that if I bought I could turn into a bestseller. For me the train ride is prime writing time -- when I arrive and am asked how the trip was, I answer in word count.
The one person I never met on the train, was someone I found sexually attractive. But, what if...
"Empty Seat" starts with a train ride, a deadline, and someone who wants to sit in that empty seat. At the end of the trip, Louise offers Alex a nightcap as thanks for help with a presentation to a prospective client. But they never order drinks.
Now available at Smashwords for only $1.99.

Last month I read an article about the lack of correlation between social media posts and people actually reading what they share. I had already been thinking about the difference between news consumption now and only a decade or two ago.
So, today I have some thoughts to share on my blog about the Cacophony of Gossip, Fabrications, Deceptions, Recycled Old News, etc. that assaults us daily on the Internet. I hope you'll find time to read them.

Today, I release a second short story collection in print:
Leather Family Dynamics, six sultry stories exploring sexuality in D/s liaisons.
This book was published electronically as Family Dynamics in August, 2013. In October because of Amazon's arbitrary and capricious "content guidelines," I was forced to change the name to Leather Family Dynamics to keep it available for sale on Kindle. Because I want to keep the books linked on Amazon and make it possible for readers to buy the e-book at a discount when they purchase a print copy, I chose to keep the "Leather" (albeit in very small type) in the title of the print book.
You can purchase Leather Family Dynamics in paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $26.95 includes all of the short story covers, with the gorgeous models. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $4.99 at various retailers.

No one asks a mystery writer how many people she's murdered. But, readers too often assume a writer of erotica has personally performed every sex act she writes about. Worse, as Beth Wylde discusses on my blog today, they sometimes try to emulate what they read.

For the past several months, I have spent more time on book production than writing, dedicated to a project which family crises forced me to put on hold last summer. Today, I can finally reveal the scope of the project: paper versions of all my short story collections.
Despite the proliferation of ebooks, many people still prefer to read on paper. And, the only way to keep a book you enjoy for more than a year or two is to purchase a paper copy. Otherwise, you have no guarantee the format readable on most of today's equipment will have a device capable of interpreting it in ten or even five years.
When I started the design work for this project, I debated the cost of color printing which more than doubles, in some cases, the retail price. I decided to give you the choice. I will offer each paper book in two versions: a black and white version with just the stories for $10.95. And a color Special Collector's Editions, ranging in price from $17.95 to $26.95 depending on the length. The Special Collector's Editions will include the color covers of each of the short stories included in that book.
I release the first paper book today, Love Hurts, the first collection (five steamy stories which appeared originally in magazines) I released when I started indie publishing back in 2011.
You can purchase the paperback for $10.95. The Special Collector's Edition for $21.95 includes all of the short story covers, with the gorgeous models. And, of course the ebook remains available for only $3.99 at various retailers.

Next week, I hope to reveal the project which has occupied much of my time the last two months. But, today, I have another individual story for you."
Lady Bella" first appeared in a steamy anthology of erotic stories and memoir essays written for a mature audience by writers over the age of 50,
Ageless Erotica.
Inspired by people I met at such an event, it tells the story of Steve who attended a leather campout just to capture Lady Bella's attention. But, did he have the balls to gain her favor?
"Not bad." She ran one long finger along the underside of his engorged cock. "You like CBT, boy?"
"Yes, Ma'am. Thank you, Ma'am." He'd only tried cock and ball torture once. He wasn't sure he liked it at all.
"You've served well this afternoon. I'll play with you first after dinner."
Find "Lady Bella" at Smashwords for only $1.99.

I mostly use my blog as a soap box.
As it says there, "I reserve this blog for occasional thoughtful essays (some of which first appeared as guest posts on other blogs) on subjects ranging from politics to BDSM." Today, I welcome the first guest blogger to stand on my soapbox.
I have known Cecilia Tan for almost a decade. We share many passions and admire each other's work. So, I'm delighted to welcome her to step up onto my soapbox long enough to tell you Why Writing About Female Submission is a Feminist Act
