What exactly is happy ever after or even happy for now? In erotic romance, it's when the two people the story's about make a commitment to a future together. But that's not always the best outcome for both.

In today's story, Lunchtime Lover, Lisa has to decide how to find her own happy ending. When they started their affair, they were both married to someone else and promised each other love wasn't an option. But, when Lisa's divorce was final, Collin's behavior changed.

But, I hope you will at least find it thought provoking.

Today's story, Passion's Price, was too long for most of the markets I sold my fiction to. One editor expressed interest in it, but asked that I cut the length by more than a third. She sent it back because that had required removing all the juicy parts and it no longer was sexy enough for her publication.

Another advantage of indie publishing is that the story, rather than an arbitrary number set by a publisher, is allowed to set its own word count.

Richard stole Gina's heart from three thousand miles away. But, when he moved across the country to be with her, her intensity and passion for life drove him away. When he tries to get her back, he discovers without passion, Gina's just a shell.

"Before leaving for the airport, Gina had lowered the shades in the bedroom, turned down the lights, and stretched a half dozen strands of soft, cotton rope across freshly laundered satin sheets. Inspired by a conversation overheard at a cocktail party, Commiserate was originally published in Foreplay 6 a year ago. Of course, the two women I overheard only became best friends after they broke up with the same guy. But, since I have a dirty mind ...

Mark Zellen dumped both of them. When they get together to commiserate, they discover they have more in common than an ex-boyfriend.

One of the advantages of the new publishing environment is that I've been able to reduce the price of the print editions to $11.95 while still earning more per book sale than I did when they were $16.95. I've also reduced the cost of the first edition copies that I have available for sale if anyone wants a signed collector's item.

After a couple of weeks dedicated to getting the second editions of Broken and Shattered published as e-book (available now) and print book (available soon), today I'm back to publishing short stories.

Today, I published the e-book of Shattered and learned that I will receive the rights to Dommemoir back at the end of the year.

As I mentioned last week, Shattered was inspired by someone I knew who suffered horrific abuse at the hands of his therapist.

Next week, I will go back to publishing short stories on Wednesdays. I also, hope to have the print versions of the second editions of Broken and Shattered available.

The irony of the new publishing environment is that I was almost as excited to get the rights back to my first two published novels as I was to sell them in the first place three years ago. I'm thrilled to be releasing second editions of the print books and, for the first time, electronic books for both novels over the next few weeks with fabulous new covers by Nyla Alisia.

The books are related in that the protagonist in Broken is the antagonist in Shattered. Shattered was inspired by someone I knew who suffered abuse similar to what's depicted in the novel. When I tried to imagine how anyone could perpetuate such horrific torture on another human being, in a desperate attempt not to write a one-dimensional villain, I ended up with another book, Broken.

While knowing first hand that what Zachary suffered in Shattered was all too close to the truth, I asked a friend, who had studied for his doctorate in psychology, to read the books. I found it disconcerting that he thought Broken very believable, given his own experience.

These are not romances. They're cautionary tales about abuse and the meaning of consent. You may find them arousing, or you may find them revolting. But, I hope you will at least find them thought provoking.

Although it was the third published, Dommemoir was the first erotica novel I wrote. It probably will be the only novel I ever offer for publication that can be classified as a romance. My short stories often fall into that category, but my novels tend to be dark, tackling controversial, disruptive issues.

Dommemoir takes on some topics that may make some uncomfortable -- consensual slavery, polyamory, privacy -- but it is, first and foremost, a romance. However, when I was plotting it out, I realized that the two main characters don't meet until Chapter 13: not much opportunity for the steamy sex scenes my readers would expect before then.

So, I invited "Jarod", a twenty-four-year-old co-worker of Geneviéve (who is a forty-something divorcée) to step in for those first few chapters as a distraction for Geneviéve, expecting him to bow out when Nicolas shows up. Much to my surprise and Geneviéve's (and Nicolas' consternation) he stuck around for the entire book!

When I lived alone, I frequently enjoyed going to FemDom parties. They have a different energy than pansexual parties.

I always had a lovely selection of toys to choose from and often I would play with more than one. Today's story, "Starting Over", was inspired by one such party. A version of this story, trimmed down to meet print limitations, appeared as "Fem Dom Party," in the July 2008 edition of Forum.

Since her pet walked out on her, she'd stayed away from parties. It hurt to watch other women playing with their toys when she didn't have one of her own. Then a friend coerced her into attending a very special event.

Each clothespin came off with a sob and my pussy got wetter. "Thank you, Mistress," he whispered.

When I lived in Salem, the local munch met for several years at a restaurant in the same shopping center as Hawg Haven, a proprietor of "Quality, Affordable, Biker and Fashionable Leather." Sometimes, if I arrived early, I would stop in to shop and found they truly do live up to their motto.

The experience got me thinking about the things that bikers and kinksters have in common and how one is often mistaken for the other. This was the inspiration for today's story, "Paddles", originally published by Forum in November, 2007.

"Maybe you should plan on staying here in Kallum for a day or two. I could teach you a few things." She winked and her smile reminded me of a cat watching a mouse. When she carried the pitcher around the end of the bar, her hips swayed provocatively. I had to admit, if she meant her statement as an invitation, I'd find it hard to resist her ample ass and big bazookas. I downed the rest of my beer in one long swallow.

The short story, "Benjamin", was inspired by a real incident in a small town. If you're kinky, it takes a great deal of bravery to reach out to others like yourself. Even more bravery is required for those oriented outside the norms of this patriarchal society: submissive men and Dominant women. Now add the dynamics of a small town in the middle of nowhere, and a great deal of courage is required.

This story touches on these topics. But the characters are crying out for more. Let me know if you like the story -- I'm thinking of exploring their adventures in more detail.

My story "Leather Family" is very special to me for reasons that have more to do with the story behind the story than the story itself. It is, I believe, one of my better stories, and it covers the spectrum of sexuality with F/f, M/m, and F/m/m. But it's special to me for two other reasons.

I first read the story at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival in 2009. I had just met my sweet submissive, Patrick, the day before. In his very first service to me, he served as my microphone stand, kneeling in front of me, holding the microphone, so I would have my hands free to manage the printed pages.

Another relationship, a business one, was involved in the acquisition of the story. Elizabeth Coldwell, bought several of my stories when she was an editor for Forum, a UK magazine. She also reviewed my novels for the magazine. She left to concentrate on her own writing, and the magazine has since ceased to publish -- another victim of the electronic revolution.

So, I was surprised and delighted to receive an e-mail from Elizabeth letting me know she's now acquiring stories for Xcite, which also published "Three Way" last year. I offered her "Leather Family" and within 24 hours of my sending it, she had decided to use it.

It's now available as the final story in Her First Submission, a collection of five erotic stories with mixed themes, including fem sub, fem dom, older woman/younger man and sex in public.

In "Leather Family", although Master Monica owns Kyle, a bisexual male switch, and Lisbet, a lesbian slave, her family still doesn’t seem complete. Kyle needs a male sexual partner and someone he can dominate. Monica enjoys sexual scenarios involving herself and two men. Kyle finds a young man to bring into the family who seems suitable in all ways but one. The boy is gay, and Monica has to figure out whether (and how) she can make that work.

I am a story teller. But, I also have a great many opinions about the world and, as anyone who follows me on Twitter and Facebook knows, I'm not shy about sharing them. Most of my short erotic fiction is just that: short and erotic. But in my novels, I try to offer more. If I can make a reader think about life differently (preferably while they're getting wet or hard), then I've done my job as a story teller.

So, after a long, difficult day that required me to crawl out of bed at an (for me) unearthly hour for vanilla-world responsibilities, it was lovely to return and find these words written at the end of a five-paddle review for Dommemoir on BDSM Book Reviews:

"Dommemoir was a true eye opener. It caused me to stop and consider the other side of the coin through the eyes of the opposite sex. Men allowing women to be the dominant force in the relationship harbors such taboo's in today's world. The author touched on how society views men who enjoy allowing their significant others to be in control and be subservient to another. I stopped and pondered many views that I previously thought to be un-savorable, and reconsidered them with a more open, educated mind."

I had planned on posting the Eleanor & Mick collection of four stories yesterday. But, as I mentioned last week, they keep whispering ideas for new adventures in my ear. Tuesday, they insisted that a collection would not be complete without one final story. I wrote it. I don't have artwork to make cover for it, so you can only read it if you buy the whole collection. (Anyone who's purchased all the stories individually, send me an e-mail if you want the final story.) The collection now includes:

Things We Do for Love: When her gorgeous girlfriend comes to visit, Eleanor again worries that Mick will let their age difference come between them. He obviously finds Liz attractive. But, Liz only has eyes for Eleanor and Mick talks her into letting him watch.

Paid in Full: Mick's army buddy thinks Eleanor's hot and makes a deal with Mick.

Renovations: Mick moved in with Eleanor, but her place is too small for them both to work at home. After spending a month renovating her garage, Eleanor discovers Mick's built in a few surprises.

Today's story, Paid in Full, is the fourth in the series about the sexual escapades of Eleanor and Mick. Next week, I'll publish the collection for those who want to have them all in one volume (and save some money). Although this is the last story I'm planning to publish about them, the characters keep whispering ideas for new adventures in my ear, so who knows. ;)

In "Things We Do for Love", the next story in the Eleanor & Mick series, Mick persuades Eleanor to venture somewhere sexually, to do something she never would have tried before she met him.

When her gorgeous girlfriend comes to visit, Eleanor again worries that Mick will let their age differences come between them. He obviously finds Liz attractive. But, Liz only has eyes for Eleanor and Mick talks her into letting him watch.

"I couldn't even pick up my head to look at him. I had no clue how to respond. I'd never had any desire to get sexually involved with a female, with or without an audience. On the other hand, the idea didn't gross me out. I'd already done previously unimaginable things to keep Mick happy. I sighed. Maybe Liz would turn us down."

If you were curious enough about me to dig all the way down to through the archives on my website, you would see mention of the very first time I received any recognition and external encouragement for my erotic fiction. Back in 2004, today's story, "Salt for His Wounds", won first place in an anniversary short fiction contest for a webzine that's since disappeared, the URL taken over by another entity.

After I won that award, I started consistently selling my erotic short fiction to various print and electronic publishers.

Meanwhile, the characters of the story stayed with me and I went on to write two more stories about them which I will publish in the coming weeks. When I started looking for cover art, I was excited to find a series of photos of a couple that very much remind me of Eleanor and Mick and the passion they share.

Lessons Learned is the first collection I've self published with only never-before-available stories. It's a special collection, inspired by the many men I've met who are in love with women they had hoped would be FemDoms, but who cling to vanilla relationship constructs. Perhaps they could learn something from these stories (or share them with those women in hopes of giving them ideas).

A word on formatting. I love Smashwords. They make it easy to self publish e-books, give me access to markets (such as Kobo and Apple) otherwise difficult to reach, and pay the best rates. But, if you're reading pdf or epub files, the Smashwords meat grinder doesn't always convert them well. When I've converted books myself, I think they look a little better.

To Serve: Trapped in a vanilla marriage, Ryan seeks the advice of a FemDom and uses it to introduce his wife to the lifestyle. He hopes Cynthia will embrace his need to serve her, but he worries about how she'll react to his confession.

Change in View: Rachel agreed to mentor Luke in his pursuit of the perfect Mistress. Their relationship remained platonic until he saw her dressed up to attend a charity event.

Many men have submissive fantasies. Few men truly desire to serve. Professional dominatrixes serve a need by providing the former an outlet for their fantasies. Sometimes men who fall into the second category find visiting professionals less than fulfilling.

I have met many of those men. This week's original story, "To Serve", is dedicated to them.

I often wonder how many marriages end because spouses are too constrained by society's restrictions to communicate honestly about their sexual needs. When I played the online dating game, I sometimes would see profiles that reminded me of my ex-husband. Fortunately, he had moved to another state, so I didn't have to worry about meeting him by accident. Still, the thought inspired today's story "Blind Date".

Trish avoided her ex-husband when she arrived at the restaurant to meet her blind date. But after she realized she'd been stood up, she accepted Brian's dinner invitation. As it turns out, they each had quite a surprise for the other.

"All the correspondence they'd exchanged suddenly took on new meaning as she correlated what she knew about the man with what he had written."

After this week's fiasco in Washington, I'm rather discouraged about our future. I'm taking a few days off the Internet to hang out with some other writers and regroup. I'll be back with another, brand new, never before published story, next week.

I consider myself fairly computer literate. I've been writing on a computer almost daily for decades. I remember accessing the Internet, before the world-wide web existed, via dial up modems. Long before web browsers allowed the development of Friendster (predecessor of MySpace for you youngsters deserting Facebook for Google+), we had bulletin boards and listservs.

Now, I carry more computing power in my purse than sat on my desk back then. So forgive me, if I'm still a little amazed that today's story is being published electronically while I travel home on the train.

This week, for the first time, I am publishing a story that has never appeared in print or online. In "Arresting Development", Bethany went out with Officer Rick to avoid a speeding ticket. Then she discovered just how much fun getting "arrested" can be.

This week's story, "Teacher's Pet", was first published by Hustler Fantasies in August, 2005.

Today, I'm honored to report that the Salem Munch, which I led for three years, has invited me to speak on the five-year anniversary of its rebirth.
